For those of a certain age who can remember hand-start Lister Petter engines in Thwaites dumpers with no electrics at all, to comply with legislation Thwaites, as all manufacturers have, are now producing dumpers with quite complicated electrics on. It all started with road lighting kits with Thwaites dumpers available with a full road lighting kit with brake lights, indicators, main and dipped beam headlight and has progressed to the modern Thwaites dumper having flashing beacons, green seat belt lights, neutral start switches, seat belt switches, seat switches, ECU, DPF warning lights, transmission dump switches and a myriad of switches, sender units, plugs, solenoids and looms to control all of these systems and functions. This is for Thwaites dumpers without a cab, the cabbed Thwaites dumpers also have air-conditioning, heaters, USB connections amongst other things which brings another load of switches, control panels, relays, sender units and warning buzzers into the equation. Most of these Thwaites parts connect directly on to the Thwaites loom via a plug, the days of crimped Lucas connectors are over, and therefore to avoid problems it is recommended that you only fit genuine Thwaites parts to your dumper. Why compromise by trying to save a few pounds on a Ebay switch or a cheap Chinese copy from one of the aftermarket ‘on-line dumper specialist’ for your Thwaites dumper, after all you don’t want you cheap, Chinese ignition switch shorting out and burning the starter motor and loom out on your £26k worth of Thwaites dumper. Keep it genuine………….you know it makes sense.
