As the largest supplier of Yanmar TNV engines in the UK, PES always have stock of engines for next day delivery. As the largest manufacturer of dumpers in the world, Thwaites are the most prevalent dumper seen on construction sites in the UK.
Ultimately, this means that the requirement for engines for Thwaites dumpers far exceed that for Mecalac or JCB dumper for example. The Yanmar 3TNV88 is fitted to all Thwaites 3 tonne dumpers whether it be straight tip, powerswivel, manual gearbox or hydrostatic and has a PTO aperture on the timing cover to fit the hydraulic pump that operates the steering and tipping functions.
The Yanmar 3TNV88 engine is 1.642 litre capacity that in the 3TNV88-XWA2 format produces 22.6kw@2500rpm, the later 3TNV88-BWWA engine is down-rated to produce 18kW@2000rpm as this is the emission compliant engine. PES can supply both engines from stock.
Thwaites have been fitting Yanmar engines to their dumpers for over 25 years, believe it or not the previous engine fitted to Thwaites was the Lister Petter air-cooled engine or the old Perkins 100 series, the latter engine wouldn’t pull the skin off a rice pudding and the former engine was the most un-dolphin friendly engine you could imagine, with clouds of black smoke on start up and when you revved it up.
