With margins squeezed and construction in the doldrums it’s important to save every penny that you can and extract the maximum value out of every activity until the incumbent Government realises that perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea to crash the economy. I’m not political as I think they are all pretty useless but when do you think the Labour party will stop being able to use ‘we inherited the problem from the Tories’ as an excuse!!!

On a recent trip to Thwaites at Leamington Spa, a 337 mile round trip from Devon, to have a meeting with Tim Frost, Thwaites Commercial Manager and to keep the expense to a minimum our Parts Manager ordered a ‘car load’ of spare parts to be brought back. The picture shows approx. £6000 of genuine Thwaites parts loaded to the roof of the car which saved us approximately £200 in carriage charges. In amongst the load was 100 Thwaites steering wheels which I have been reminded won’t even last us a month!!!

For simple maths purposes if you made 10% profit you would have to turn over £2000 of parts, or approximately one third of the ‘car load’, to simply pay for the carriage charge!!!

This is one of the reasons we are the largest supplier of Thwaites, Terex, Terex/JCB and Mecalac dumper parts in the UK as we have the ability to maximise profits by minimalizing costs by simply making every process as efficient as possible. As the Meerkat say’s…….simples.
