It’s now 5 years since we launched our on-line dumper parts store for Thwaites, Terex, Terex/JCB, Mecalac and Barford spare parts and its success has taken us all a bit by surprise. In April 2020 we pushed the button and went live and wondered if anybody would ever buy anything on it!!! As the largest supplier of dumper parts in the UK we have always prided ourselves on being ‘experts’ in our chosen field and having the parts on the shelf, ready for next day delivery. At the time of the launch of the on-line shop, 98% of our parts enquiries came in via the telephone. Do you remember those days when people used to actually talk to each other rather than converse through social media!!!

With this in mind when we decided to launch our on-line shop we thought it would be a bit of a slow uptake with customers still preferring to ring up to order parts. This is still true to a certain extent with the vast majority of customers still doing this and not ordering via the on-line portal. However, what has changed is that the dumper parts on-line shop has brought us new customers who now mainly use this facility rather than ringing up, whereas probably only 5% of existing customers use it, the old adage ‘old habits die hard’ springs to mind!!

With a monthly turnover of between £350-450K in Thwaites, Terex, Terex/JCB, Mecalac and Barford spares our on-line shop now is approx. 12% of that total. In fairness our total parts turnover has also grown but we never envisaged that the on-line shop would be as successful as it is. This may be the fact that our easy to navigate shop has all our dumper parts on that are grouped together in easily identifiable groups, backed up with pictures and engineering drawings where required which means selecting the correct part is easy.

PES have now been supplying dumper parts for over 35 years and are incredibly proud to be able to boast that we are the most knowledgeable and biggest stockists of Thwaites, Terex, Terex/JCB, Mecalac and Barford dumper parts in the UK, if not the world. There are not many companies in Devon who can claim to be ‘world leading’ in anything apart from South West Water for pumping raw sewage into the sea, but that’s hardly an accolade that they would want!!!

We always strive to be innovative, hence the launch of our new on-line shop for Husqvarna construction equipment which has gone live in the last couple of weeks (www.husqyce.co.uk).

However innovative we are it still needs to be backed up with good old-fashioned service, a rare thing these days, as flashy jingo’s, straplines and corporate statements sometime mask an ineptitude that you think was their actual goal rather than providing a service or goods that paid their bills.
