In our industry, when things start slowing down the first thing that stops being purchased is site mixers. As the Winget mixer dealer here in the west-country and the Channel Islands, the sale of new site mixers has more or less stopped in the last 8 months with just the odd Winget 100TES leaving our depot every now and again. I was reliably informed that Speedy Hire only had a 50% utilisation rate on their mixer fleet and had hundreds of mixers in their depots rusting away.
Here at PES we might have witnessed the first green shoots of recovery. Without getting ahead of ourselves and dusting the champagne off November has seen a recovery in all thing’s mixer related. As well as selling Winget mixers we are the largest supplier and stockists of Yanmar engines in the UK and always keep supplies of Yanmar L48N and Yanmar L48V engines in stock ready for immediate delivery for both Winget and Belle mixers. These Yanmar L48 engines are a unique build as the output shaft is the camshaft not the crankshaft so output is effectively half speed. We also keep Winget mixers parts on the shelf as well so we are able to offer the complete service, new Winget mixers or the ability to repair your old one. This November has seen a slight uptake in new Winget mixers but a sharp increase in Winget parts sales and Yanmar L48 mixer engines where a grand total of 9 engines in two weeks have left the stores.
I think utilisation of mixers is on the increase but, due to general nervousness, instead of purchasing new Winget mixers the old broken ones lying in the corner of the yard have been dragged out, dusted down and repaired to go back on site churning away all day mixing compo.
I see in the news the lovely Angela Rayner has been hob-nobbing with the Pope, perhaps he’s had a word with the top man in the clouds and Angela’s 1.5 million new homes are starting to be built. You never know, never here Kier and Angela might club together and buy a new Winget mixer and give a hand building these new homes………………but then again.
