PES, the largest stockists of Yanmar TNV engines in the UK, now have the Yanmar 4TNV98C common rail engines in stock, both in naturally aspirated and turbo-charged versions. The Yanmar 4TNV98C is a 3.319 litre engine, the naturally aspirated 4TNV98C producing 51.7kW @2500rpm and the 4TNV98CT turbo-charged version 53.7kW@2500rpm.

Both engines are ECU controlled to provide optimum control of the engine and have exhaust gas re-circulation and DPF for emission compliance.

For those people who don’t know what a common rail engine is it is a totally different way of providing pressurised fuel to an injector on a diesel engine. With the old mechanical pump diesel engine, the fuel injection pump provided pressurised fuel at a specific time to ‘crack off’ an injector and therefore have a combustion process. This was a relatively inefficient process which could result in clouds of black smoke coming out of the exhaust which was unburnt diesel.

The common rail system is different inasmuch as there is one high-pressure pump providing fuel at high pressure to a location known as a common rail. This common rail then feeds the injectors which don’t crack off at a certain pressure but are controlled electronically by an ECU. Unlike the old system where there was one ‘squirt’ of diesel per cycle, a common rail injector may ‘squirt’ up to 5 times in a 7 milli-second injection cycle.

The Yanmar TNV common rail family starts at the 1.642 litre Yanmar 3TNV88C through to the 4.567 litre Yanmar 4TN107FHT engine. At PES we only stock the Yanmar 3TNV88C, Yanmar 4TNV98C and Yanmar 4TNV98CT engines as they are the most popular engines within our construction industry, the 4TNV98C still being fitted to the majority of 8-9 tonne class excavators.

If you need any Yanmar TNV engines or Yanmar LN air-cooled engines contact the experts at PES, we keep them in stock and we know what we are talking about.
