Barford Dumper Gearbox / Transmissions

The Barford SX range of dumpers were fitted with Newage 40M gearboxes in the Barford SX2000 and Barford SXR2000 (2 tonne capacity) and the Newage 85M gearboxes in the Barford SX3000 and Barford SXR3000 (3 tonne capacity) until Newage went into administration and then both ranges were fitted with the Spicer 401. Both the Newage and the Spicer boxes fitted to the Barford SX range of dumpers were very similar in design and could be described as ‘crash type’ boxes with no syncromesh on any gears and a simple 3 forward and 1 reverse nature.

  • The Newage 40M gearbox fitted to Barford SX2000, Barford SXR2500 is a simple non-synchromesh gearbox with 3 forward and 1 reverse gear. The design of the Newage 40M gearbox did not change for years and was available in several different builds including with a built in dropbox. There are literally thousands of Newage 40M gearboxes in circulation and since Newage went into administration PES have manufactured the internal components using the original Newage suppliers to ensure the continuity of parts for your Barford SX2000 or Barford SXR2000 dumper. Most Newage 40M parts are available, apart from castings, from stock for next day delivery or PES are able to offer complete service exchange Newage 40M gearboxes from stock or can quote to repair your existing Newage 40M gearbox in your Barford SX2000 or Barford SXR2000 dumper.
  • The Newage 85M gearbox fitted to Barford SX3000, Barford SXR3000 is a simple non-synchromesh gearbox with 3 forward and 1 reverse gear. The design of the Newage 85M gearbox did not change for years and was available in several different builds including with a built in dropbox.   • The Spicer 401 gearbox was designed to replace the Newage 40M and Newage 85m gearboxes in site dumpers when Newage went into administration and production ceased. The Spicer 401 gearbox is designed to fit Barford SX2000, Barford SXR2000, Barford SX3000 and Barford SXR3000 dumpers and is a simple non-synchromesh gearbox with 3 forward and 1 reverse gear and of a similar design to its Newage predecessor. Most Spicer 401 parts are available, apart from castings, from stock for next day delivery or PES are able to offer complete service exchange Spicer 401 gearbox from stock or can quote to repair your existing Spicer 401 gearbox in your Barford SX2000, Barford SXR2000, Barford SX3000 or Barford SXR3000 dumper.
  • The ITL transmission was fitted to the Barford SX5000, Barford SXR5000, Barford SX6000, Barford SXR6000, Barford SX9000, Barford SXR9000 and Barford SK1000 site dumpers. The ITL transmission in the Barford dumper were fitted with an electronic over hydraulically operated clutch pack for forward/reverse operations and 4 synchromesh gears with dump-switch. These torque convertor ITL transmissions are still fitted to all current production dumpers and are a robust unit which stand up well to the rigors and abuse on construction sites.  All ITL transmission parts are available from stock for next day delivery or PES are able to offer complete service exchange ITL transmission from stock or can quote to repair your existing ITL transmission in your Barford SX5000, Barford SXR5000, Barford SX6000, Barford SXR6000, Barford SX9000, Barford SXR9000 and Barford SK1000 site dumpers. All Barford ITL transmissions are tested on our in-house test rig for 30 minutes before despatch ensuring ITL solenoids are engaging ITL clutch packs with the correct pressure.

The larger Barford SX5000, Barford SXR5000, Barford SX6000, Barford SXR6000, Barford SX9000, Barford SXR9000 and Barford SK1000 were fitted with the ITL powershuttle transmission with an electronic over hydraulically operated clutch pack for forward/reverse operations and 4 synchromesh gears with dump-switch. These torque convertor ITL transmissions are fitted to all current production dumpers now and are a robust unit which stand up well to the rigors and abuse on construction sites.

As well as spare parts PES are able to offer service exchange Newage 40m, Newage 85M, Spicer 401 gearboxes and ITL transmissions from stock for your Barford dumper or can quote and rebuild your existing unit.
